The "Geological Engineering Faculty Team" of Chang'an University has been shortlisted for the 4th batch of the "National University Huang Danian-style Faculty Teams" (initiative) list

Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the shortlist for the 4th batch of the "National University Huang Danian-style Faculty Teams" Demonstration Initiative. The "Geological Engineering Faculty Team" led by Professor Fan Wen from the School of Geological Engineering and Geomatics of Chang'an University was successfully shortlisted.

Relying on the national key discipline of "Geological Engineering", the Geological Engineering Faculty Team is based in western China, oriented towards the frontier of geoscience and technology, and focuses on key fields of engineering geology and geological hazards. It has built an innovative echelon featuring academician leadership, top-tier scholar leadership, middle-aged and young backbones as support, and coordinated development of multi-level talents.

In terms of scientific research, the team closely aligns with the major strategic needs of the country. It has taken the lead in systematically conducting international research on the genetic mechanism and prevention and control technologies of ground fissure hazards, and established a "mechanism-monitoring-prevention and control" system for geological hazards with regional characteristics in loess areas and bedrock mountainous areas. Relevant achievements have been successfully applied to major national projects such as the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the West-to-East Gas Pipeline Project, the Sichuan-Tibet Railway, and the Yarlung Zangbo River Hydropower Station. Over the past five years, the team has presided over more than 50 national-level key scientific research projects and won 8 national and provincial/ministerial-level science and technology progress awards, making outstanding contributions to the construction of major projects and the prevention and control of geological hazards in western China.

In terms of teaching, the team is deeply engaged in front-line teaching and has built a "three-in-one" teaching and research system consisting of "national-level platform highlands, provincial/ministerial-level platform clusters, and international teaching and research bases". In the past five years, it has developed 1 national first-class course and 6 provincial/ministerial-level high-quality courses; won 5 national and provincial/ministerial-level teaching achievement awards; and cultivated a large number of outstanding young talents. These talents have served in thousands of engineering construction projects in multiple industries such as transportation, water conservancy, and hydropower, continuously injecting new vitality into the high-quality development of geological engineering teaching, scientific research, and engineering practice in China.
